Volunteers Clean Up Calico Basin

On June 30, 2007, five volunteers from the Green Climbing Club gathered in the Calico Basin of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to make a difference on our public lands. While the day turned out to be extremely hot, the temperature did nothing to deter the group’s enthusiasm. They gathered early in the morning and by 11:00 a.m. had removed over 10 cubic yards of construction and demolition waste that had been illegally dumped. The group is looking forward to another event in the future.

If your group is interested in working on a clean-up project, please call Doug Joslin at 895-5149 to learn more about volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering please check this web site for upcoming events and www.getoutdoorsnevada.org for other opportunities.

Volunteers use the new Don’t Trash Nevada “litter stretcher” to remove waste from the Calico Basin area.

Volunteers dispose of construction waste into a roll-off.

Another load is removed from our public lands by dedicated and caring volunteers.

Even a small group can make a big difference. Five volunteers removed 10 cubic yards of waste during this very hot event.

Proud of their work!
